Landscapes

Many of the paintings in this Gallery are devoted to the Gower Peninsular, which in 1957 was designated "the first area of outstanding natural beauty in Britain". The South side of the peninsular, with its spectacular limestone cliffs forming dramatic, steep backdrops to hard-packed, pristine sandy beaches has recently been voted as being host to some of the finest views in the United Kingdom. Surfers and Summer visitors pack this side of the peninsular which contrasts sharply with the extreme tip of this sea-jutting land spear at Rhossili and its opposite North side. Here, at Gower's most westerly point, is the lonely, rusting sentinel of Whiteford Lighthouse, the Country's last iron-clad lighthouse still standing. It looks aloofely from its mostly watery base to the sand dunes and conifer plantations behind them and the sweeping wonder that is Whiteford Beach, every bit as grand and long as Rhossili's.

Moving eastwards, around Whiteford, there will be only sea birds, ponies, rabbits and the limbs of the incoming sea, snaking, sea-creeping pills that flood alarmingly until the whole marsh plateau is covered with a shallow silver sheet, wave-free and surface still, a mirror to the setting sun.

What a place to paint! Its magical! I love to spend the day here and it appeals to me far more than its busier and more popular South side (although, I probably have produced more work of the South side). But there are few people here to disturb and distract my thoughts except the ones whose company I enjoy. A favourite place for me to paint the landscape, seascape and figure.
